Public schools will ensure that all students with disabilities who are eligible for kindergarten through 21 years of age, residing within their attendance area, have available to them a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment. The rights of children with disabilities and their parents will be protected in accordance with state and federal laws.

School districts must locate and identify children who have disabilities from birth to age 21. If you, or someone you know, has a child with a disability who may be in need of special education and related services, you can initiate a referral through your local schools.  For more information about services or to begin the referral process for special education services, please contact:

Birth to age 5: Clackamas Educational Service District – Cindy Norton (503) 675-4162

Kindergarten through age 21: Secretary of Student Services – Lishia Stone (503) 824-3535

Every school in the Colton School District has a multidisciplinary intervention team. The purpose of the intervention team is to notice and intervene early if a child is struggling in any area of educational performance. One possible outcome of support through this team could be referral for special education evaluation in any and all areas of suspected disability. This team makes data driven decisions in the best interest of students.  Contact your student's principal if you would like to learn more about the intervention team process.
