School Health Services

Colton School District acknowledges that health is a vital aspect of student well-being and contributor to success in the academic setting.

The National Association of School Nurses Board of Directors defined school nursing as:

"A specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students.  To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning."

The school nurse case manages children with chronic health issues and serves on a multidisciplinary team to assist in minimizing health-related barriers to academics and provides support to population-based services.
