FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 24, 2025 Colton School District Welcomes Dr. Anthony Buckner as Building Administrator and K-12 Student Services Coordinator Colton, OR – The Colton School District is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Anthony “Tony” Buckner as our new Elementary Principal and K-12 Student Services Coordinator as of July 1, 2025. Dr. Buckner brings to the table two decades of expertise in public school and district administration. Dr. Buckner holds an Educational Doctorate degree in School Administration and a Juris Doctor focused on Special Education. Dr. Buckner has most recently served as Director of Special Programs for the Newberg-Dundee Public Schools, where he led programs for Special Education, Section 504, Talented and Gifted (TAG), and Early Childhood Education. He has been instrumental in building lasting systems of student support, implementing mental health supports across Newberg-Dundee schools, and supervising multi-disciplinary teams including school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and certified counselors. In addition to his stellar leadership in district-level programs, Dr. Buckner also brings to us a strong background in building-level school administration. As an Assistant Principal at Newberg High School, he successfully led the Counseling, Science, and Special Education departments, and designed a school-wide discipline rubric to improve behavioral outcomes. His career reflects a unique blend of legal expertise, educational psychology, and program leadership—skills that will be essential in his new dual role at Colton. As a School Psychologist, he has worked at all levels of K-12 education, but has always held a special fondness for supporting elementary teachers with their crucial, foundational work with grade school students. He is delighted to work with the elementary staff in enhancing and maximizing the effectiveness of their academic and behavioral support programs. Superintendent Dave Kline has shared, “Dr. Buckner brings a strong depth of knowledge and a passion for creating inclusive, student-centered learning environments. We are excited to welcome him to Colton and look forward to the positive impact he will make.” Other references describe him as a calm, positive super-collaborative, out-of-the box problem-solver and servant leader. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Buckner to the Colton School District community. We are confident his leadership will support and enhance our mission to inspire and empower every student to thrive.

Colton High School's ASPIRE program held its first job and career fair. Nina Baurer’s planning, organizing, and hard work made it a huge success. Nina contacted and confirmed 31 presenters from local businesses and agencies to showcase the wide variety of careers available. The room was buzzing with conversations and hands-on demonstrations of police drones, digital welding, and cyber security. It was an eye-opening experience for the high school students. Nina’s coordinating efforts involved the students from the ground up. She had the Leadership class call and confirm the presenters, advertise for the event and serve as ambassadors to the presenters. It was a real teaching experience for the students. Local businesses such as Colton Coffee, Colton Cafe, and Clyde’s 76 station donated discount coupons for the presenters as a thank you. It was great thinking on Nina’s part since that morning, we had a two-hour school deal,y and some of the presenters did not get the message. She kept her cool, re-grouped, and the show went on! Nina did an amazing job, here is to next year. - Lacey Smith.
